Composites Without Borders Forum V sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia is to take place at the Congress Center of Technopolis Moscow on 18 October 2017. UMATEX Group (part of the State Corporation Rosatom) is to host the Forum.

The Forum to comprise:

- General session on prospects of composites in priority economy sectors (aircraft engineering, shipbuilding, energy, automotive engineering, construction, etc.), market development and expansion projects,

- Cross-industry conference on application of composite materials and composite products in transport infrastructure, construction industry, housing and utility sector. Union Of Composites Manufacturers and UMATEX Group (part of the State Corporation Rosatom) are organizers of the cross-industry conference.

Major purpose of the Forum: outline projects for market development, creation, introduction, and conformance certification of new products; promote composites in various industries; share knowledge and experience in engineering and composite items production technologies; demonstrate state-of-the-art equipment; make the industry more attractive for investors for creating new facilities, materials, and final products.

Russia's composites market grew 4.5 times in 2016 versus 2011, and by 20 % versus 2015. In absolute value terms, it is estimated to be 820 million dollars per year. According to Alexander Tyunin, CEO of UMATEX Group, the composites market is one of the most rapidly developing both in Russia and worldwide: The requirement for import phase-out is a key factor to growth in our country in addition to the worldwide trends. Development of a complete technology chain is critical for success on this market, and UMATEX Group being part of the State Corporation Rosatom is building the chain. Expansion of the Russian market will depend on the demand for locally produced composites by the businesses in aircraft engineering, shipbuilding, automotive engineering, energy, construction, consumer goods. That is why it is so important to improve competencies of the industry players in engineering and production of composites."

Forum keynotes include prospects of development of the Russian and international composites industry, new composite applications, production technologies for fibers, fiber materials, and final products with composites. Representatives of the Russian and international composites industry leaders are to make their reports.

Being part of the Forum, cross-industry conference is to highlight application of composite materials and composite products in transport infrastructure, construction industry, housing and utility sector. Polymer composites, items, and structures have been long used for construction on a global scale. The construction industry consumes over 30 % of the global volume of polymer composite items, which makes about 4 million tons. Sergei Vetokhin, Executive Director of the Union of Composites Manufacturers noted that national construction companies consumed no more than 2 % of the global volume of polymer composites, by various estimates: "It is a drop in the ocean. We strive to change that proportion fundamentally, since composites have proved to be effective in construction and renovation of buildings and structures of almost any kind."

The Forum is to take place at Technopolis Moscow, which accommodates the composites R&D center of UMATEX Group (part of the State Corporation Rosatom). Participants will have an opportunity to visit one-of-a-kind laboratories. The exposition area is to feature a composite materials showroom with products from various process stages.
